HC-One: Launch of HC-One: A company committed to kindness.

HC-One: Launch of HC-One: A company committed to kindness.

Press Release, November 1st 2011

HC-One, the new care home company, launches today (1st November) having taken over the running of a third of the care homes across the UK formerly run by Southern Cross Healthcare.

Earlier this year, landlord NHP – which owns the homes in question – came together with health and social care turnaround experts Court Cavendish, to ensure that the homes could carry on caring for residents in the event that Southern Cross could no longer continue to operate.

Today, HC-One formally begins providing care to just over 10,600 residents living in 241 homes, with just under 14,400 former Southern Cross employees having transferred to the new company, which includes every member of home staff.

HC-One has also been appointing 263 roles above home level, including its Executive Board that includes former Chair of the NHS Appointments Commission Sir William Wells, and Anne Williams CBE, the first ever president of the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, who has over 30 years of experience in social care including as Director of Community and Social Services at Salford City Council and most recently as the Department of Health’s National Director for Learning Disabilities in England.

HC-One Chairman, Dr Chai Patel commented:

“"After months of uncertainty for residents, relatives and staff we are delighted and honoured to be starting this new era.
The HC-One Board and management team have many years of experience in successfully managing care homes, and we want HC-One homes to be the kindest in the UK, with the kindest and most professional staff where each and every one matters and each and every one can make a difference.
I want to thank residents and their families for their patience, and staff for their commitment and hard work during the recent difficult period.

Looking ahead we are committed to improving the quality of services and properties, retaining and developing the kindest and best staff, and improving the occupancy in our homes. Those are our goals and that is our promise."
